Dogpatch Wineworks operates out of the American Industrial Center in the heart of San Francisco's historic Dogpatch neighborhood. When it was first built the AIC was one of San Francisco's largest structures and was described as a "sky scraper on it's side." It was originally occupied by the American Can Company which fulfilled contracts for the U.S. military for decades.
This working class neighborhood was home to waterfront-oriented industry such as shipbuilding and steel mills that flourished until mid-century and then began a steady decline after WWII. Starting in the 1990's a gradual revitalization of the community has brought an influx of restaurants, housing and a unique blend of commercial and industrial businesses to the neighborhood.
